Lanny Mandolyn Hanson, 65, of Elk Mound, passed away on March 26, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Eau Claire. He was born on June 8, 1947, in Rice Lake, to Henry and Lavina (Keller) Hanson. He grew up in the Village of Ridgeland and graduated from Barron High School with the class of 1965. After high school Lanny worked at Fabritech and attended the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, as a history major, where he met Alice Klosterman. They were married on June 26, 1971, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bonduel, WI. Lanny continued working at Pepsi Bottling Company in Eau Claire and then went back to school at District 1 Technical College earning degrees in nondestructive testing and later in accounting. He then went to work for the State of Wisconsin Department of Revenue, where he worked until his retirement in 2005. Throughout his life, Lanny enjoyed spending time with his family, gun and bow hunting, target shooting, camping, being a Boy Scout leader, and participating in fur trade era reenactments. He was a member of Fort Old Abe Muzzle Loaders, Dunn County Historical Society, Wisconsin Historical Society, Menomonie Rifle and Pistol Club, and Dunn County Fish and Game Association. Lanny is survived by his wife of 41 years, Alice; two children, Kristen (Andrew) Nelsen of West Bend, WI, and Brian Hanson of Eau Claire; two granddaughters, Chloe and Sophia Nelsen; three sisters, Norreta (Duane) Fladten, Dorrene Knutson, Ronda Bonner; one sister-in-law, Karen Schmidt; and also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jarmund "Jiggs" Schmidt; two brothers-in-law, Curtiss Knutson and William Bonner; niece, Jill Rose; and a nephew, Robin Schmidt. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m., on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1120 Cedar St. in Eau Claire, with Pastor Donald Wisner officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
