Laurene L. McIntyre, 98, of Altoona, died Thursday, November 23. 2000 at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was a long time resident of 1428 Frederic St. in Eau Claire and had lived at Oak Gardens, Altoona, since February 1998.\r\nLaurene was born on February 24, 1902 in Kenyon, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Mary (Vallely) Littel. She lived in Kenyon until 1918 when her family moved to Faribault, Minnesota, where she graduated from Bethlehem Academy in 1919. She worked for Northern States Power Company in Fairibault and Minneapolis until 1930.\r\nIn 1930, Laurene married William D. McIntyre and they moved to Eau Claire.She was one of the organizers of Sacred Heart Hospital Guild and served as its first president in 1939. She was an early member of the League of Women Voters and served two terms as its' president. She was a life member of the Eau Claire Women's Club, which she joined in 1931 and held several offices in that organization. Laurene was a member of First Congregational Church.\r\nSurvivors include her daughter, Katherine V. McIntyre (and Gerald Strader) of Eau Claire, and her son, William D. McIntyre, Jr. (and his wife, Ann) of Fairbanks, Alaska; four grandsons, W. McIntyre Durning, Seattle, Washington, Hugh Durning, New York, Duane McIntyre, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Michael McIntyre, Missoula, Montana. She is furthur survived by nieces, Ann Forseman, Hackensack, Minnesota, and Mary Leonard, Boulder, Colorado; nephews, Eugene Delapenha, Tampa, Florida, Nils Peterson, Swampscott, Massachusetts, and Patrick McIntyre of Utica, New York. A very special cousin, Mary Sullivan, Port Aransas, Texas, survives, as do her special friends in Eau Claire, Carol Benning, Roger GroeneWold, and Robert Carr.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, William D. McIntyre; three sisters, Marguerite Peterson, Rose Peterson, and Vallery Delapenha, and a brother, Hugh Littel.\r\nFuneral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with Rev. Mark Pirazzini officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.\r\nThe family asks that memorials be directed to the William D. and Laurene L. McIntyre Fund (University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation), Friends of Sacred Heart Hospital Foundation, or First Congregational Church.
