LaVern C. Erdman, age 86, of Altoona, died peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center. LaVern was born on July 11, 1928, in St. Paul, MN. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years aboard a minesweeper, U.S.S. Mockingbird, Stationed in Guam. LaVern married Sandra Steidtmann on February 23, 1957. He later married Jean Welsh on July 10, 1986. He worked for Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Co. for 38 years, retiring on March 21, 1991. Dad always enjoyed a good auction, spending time at the river with family, and watching the Packers and Brewers. He was a loving husband, dad and Grandpa (Great-PaPa). He will be greatly missed by many. LaVern is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Tod Erdman and Holly (Scott) Emery; step-children, Michael Steidtmann, Bill (Kathy) Welsh, Pat (Linda) Welsh, Teresa (Lyle) Lessard, and Joe Welsh; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob (Cecilia) Newman, Gary (Marlene) Newman and Michael (Leah) Newman; along with many other relatives and friends. The Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at the West Chapel of Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 1405 N. Clairemont Avenue, Eau Claire, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Sister Catherine Manning will be officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Eau Claire. The family would like to thank Dr. Russell Durkee, the staff at Colfax Health and Rehabilitation, and St. Joseph's Hospice for all their wonderful care given to LaVern.
