LaVerne A. Cartwright, 99, of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Dove Healthcare Center in Eau Claire. She was born in Eau Claire on March 13, 1911, a daughter of William and Ida (Mason) Marx. \r\nLaVerne married Sherman Cartwright on August 25, 1930, a marriage that lasted 72 years. Sherman passed away on September 21, 2002. He was the love of her life.\r\nLaVerne is survived by her sister, Corrine Olson of Eau Claire; six nephews, Tim (Leanne) Olson of Eau Claire, James (Patti Devillers) Burgess of Green Bay, WI, David (Jackie) Marx of Houston, TX, Don (Sue) Marx of Madison, WI, Dick Marx of Eau Claire, and Scott (Anne) Marx of Parker, CO; eight nieces, Sharon (Roger) Fransway of Chetek, WI, Nancy Johnson of Eau Claire, Audrey Guarino of Gainsville, VA, Linda Madson of Eau Claire, Jeannine (Stuart) Brown of Eau Claire, Debbie (Tom) Warner of Woodbury, MN, Pamela (Raymond) Marx Mundigler of Green Bay, WI and Kathy Marx Yule of Nolensville, TN; great-nephews Brandon (Kerie) Olson of Eau Claire; great-niece, Danielle (Ron) Wagner of Altoona, WI; great-great-nieces and nephews, Alie and Brandon Wagner, Kasey Rose and Cameron Olson; and dear friend, Dr. Damon Bowlin of Colorado Springs, CO.\r\nLaVerne did not have children of her own but instead came to consider all her nieces and nephews as her children. All in all, there are 28 great and 39 great-great nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. One Special Lady! \r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman; parents; one sister, Peggy Burgess; four brothers, James, Edward, Richard and Donald Marx, brothers-in-law, Howard Olson and Kenneth Burgess; sisters-in-law, Lillian Marx, Evelyn Marx and Wanda Nitz; nieces and nephews, Gloria Marx Hestekin, Michael Marx, James Marx, Christine Marx Head, and Susan Marx Olson; and two great-nieces, Jeanne Fransway and Kristin Marx.\r\nVisitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2011, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue in Eau Claire with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. with Monsignor Edmund Klimek officiating. Private burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire.
