LaVerne O. Nelson, 78, of Eau Claire, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013, at his residence. LaVerne was born on October 13, 1934, in Eau Claire, to Norman and Beatrice (Waginald) Nelson. He married Nancy Moore on February 14, 1953, in Eau Claire. They were married for 57 years, until Nancy's passing on November 21, 2010. LaVerne was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict for two years. He worked at Pope and Talbot for most of his adult life until his retirement. LaVerne enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and shooting trap. He is survived by his 4 children, Tony (Karen) Nelson of Eau Claire, Norman (Judy) Nelson of Naples, FL, Kelly (Dorie) Nelson of Ft. Meyers, FL, and Shawn (Ev) Nelson of Eau Claire; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Gloria Spindler of Eau Claire; and 1 brother, Roger (Claudia) Nelson of Eau Claire. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a daughter, Gay Geske. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, January 25, 2013, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Private family burial will take place in the spring of 2013.
