Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" D. Wendt, 84, formerly of Cornell, WI, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Lake Hallie Memory Care Center in Chippewa Falls, WI, under the very personal and loving care of the staff and Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice. Larry was born July 6, 1930, to Lawrence Wendt Sr. and Geraldine (Gilbertson) Wendt, in Eau Claire, WI. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School. On May 6, 1950, he married Joyce A. (Perry) Wendt. They had 46 wonderful years together full of love, laughter, family, friends, music and dancing, before she preceded him in death on January 3, 1996. Larry was employed by the Paper Mill after graduating from High School. He served in the Army and was deployed to Korea. After his return, he continued to work for Pope & Talbot (the Paper Mill) until his retirement. Larry married Lorraine Hagen October 23, 1999. They divided their time between their home in Cornell, WI, during the summers, and Mesa, AZ, during the winters. They very much enjoyed their time in Mesa, had many friends and became the couple to watch on the dance floor. Larry is survived by his only child, Susan Kay (Mike) McQuillan, of Humbird, WI. Larry is also survived by his two grandchildren, to whom he will always be "Grandpa Who". He very much loved his grandchildren, Brianna E. (Brock) Waltz of Elgin, SC, and Daniel B. McQuillan of Osseo, WI. Larry was also very proud to be a great-grandparent to Landon M. Waltz and Brody P. Waltz, and spent time with them the week before he died. Larry is also survived by a "second daughter", Sue Schwartz, of Eau Claire, WI. Larry is also survived by his sister, Ann Market, of Eau Claire, WI, and her family; and his brother, George Wendt, of Eau Claire, WI, and his family. He is also survived by many cousins. In addition to his wife, Lorraine, Larry is also survived by Lorraine's daughters, Sue (Kenny) Hartzell of Cornell, WI, and their family, Donna (Larry) Larsen of Isanti, MN, and their family, and Dawn Resling of Denver, CO, and her family. Larry was very fond of his step-family, especially his step-great-grandsons. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents, Lawrence Wendt and Geraldine Gunderson; his step-father, Gale Gunderson; a young brother, John Wendt; and an infant who was stillborn. He was further preceded by a sister-in-law, Geri Wendt; and many aunts and uncles. Larry had a good life, a long life, full of love and laughter. Dementia had it's hold on him in the last few years, but he still knew the people he loved and who loved him. He will be greatly missed. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2014, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Private burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.
