LAWRENCE "LARS"-"GABE" L. GABRIEL, 73, of 2136 Crescent Ave., died Sunday, May 2, 1999 at his lake home in Clark County. He was born on August 25, 1925 in Pigeon Township, Trempealeau County to Ole and Nettie (Nelson) Gabriel and he attended school in Taylor and Black River Falls. As a teenager he was a construction worker on the Al-Can Highway.\r\nLawrence served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 18th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron Mechanized until his honorable discharge on January 21, 1946\r\nLawrence married Marjorie Schaefer on September 4, 1948 at Elkader, Iowa and they have resided in Eau Claire since 1950. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past September.\r\nHe was employed as a truck driver for Drummond Packing Co., Peters Meats, Hart Motor Express and then Motorways Limited until his retirement in 1983.\r\nHe was member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Teamsters Local #120 of St. Paul, MN, Sanctuary Lodge #347 F&AM, The Scottish Rite Valley of Eau Claire, and Zor Shrine Temple of Madison. \r\nSurvivors include his wife, Marjorie; three daughters, Kathleen Kaslow, Margaret Ann Smith and Joanne (John) Gilboy all of Eau Claire; nine grandchildren, Michael Kaslow of St. Louis Park, MN, Laura Kaslow (Rich Kennedy) of Lafayette, LA, Julie Kaslow of Minneapolis, MN, and Kimberly Kaslow of Gunnison, CO, Matthew and Timothy Smith, Kate, Mike and Allison Gilboy all of Eau Claire; two sisters, Wilma Johnson of Black River Falls and Sylvia (O.M.) Larson of Osseo; two sisters-in-law, Ilah Gabriel of Black River Falls and Bettie Mae Gabriel of Middleton; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Norman and Orten; and three sisters, Esther Olson, Adeline Thompson and Carolyn Olson\r\nLawrence will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his generosity of spirit. He was a people person who left an impression on many lives. He will be missed by his family and many friends.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Ned S. Lenhart officiating. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery.
