LAWRENCE "TED" HOVDE, 93, of Orchard Hills, Eau Claire and formerly of 2305 14th St., died Thursday, December 21, 2000 at Luther Hospital. He was born March 8, 1907 to Gust and Alice (Olson) Hovde in Norcross, MN. He was raised by his mother, grandmother, and uncles on a MN/Dakota farm. \r\nAs a young man he came east to seek his fortune and fell in love with a lovely lady named Violet M. Smith. Ted married Violet on August 24, 1929 in Eau Claire. He first met Violet at a barn dance in Eau Claire and they continued to love dancing the rest of their lives. \r\nHe worked at Sterling Pulp and Paper Company and then was employed as a machine operator at National Presto Industries until 1959. From 1960 - 1973, he was custodian at American National Bank. \r\nSurvivors include two sons, Lawrence G. (Kathy) Hovde of South Milwaukee, and Donald (Julie) Hovde of Colorado Springs, CO; four daughters, Mina Lou (James) Witt, Oconomowoc, Vi (Bob) Weggen of Eau Claire, Alice Anibas of Mondovi and Dorothy (Jerry) Anibas of Eau Claire; seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; a sister-in - law, Dorothy Hovde of Wilmot, SD; many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Violet in 1996; two grandsons, Mike Hovde and Timothy Witt; son-in-law, Phillip Anibas Jr.; sister, Altha Hovde and his brother, Alfred Hovde.\r\nTed knew that laughter was good medicine, loved to socialize, and always had encouraging words for his family and friends. He was a wonderful role model of love, integrity and faith for his children and grandchildren.\r\nFuneral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Pastor John E. Hosmann officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
