LAWRENCE E. JOHNSON, 83, of 3130 Guthrie Road, Eau Claire, died Wednesday, August 11, 1999 at Dove Health Care Center. He was born August 30, 1915 to Oscar and Bessie (Olson) Johnson in Eau Claire. Lawrence graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School and attended Eau Claire Teacher's College. He served with the U.S.Army/Air Force in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater from January 14, 1941 until July 8, 1945.\r\nLawrence married Josephine Holstein on April 6, 1942 in St. Charles, Missouri. He worked as Plant Operator for the Eau Claire City Water Department for forty years until retiring in 1977, and then moved to Chetek, WI for five years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Post #305, and American Legion Post #53.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Josephine; a daughter, JoAnn (Roger) Schulte of Eau Claire; two grandchildren, Brent (Tracey) Schulte of Clayton, CA, and Dawn (Jon) Schwieters of Eau Claire; two great-grandchildren, Kurt Logan Schwieters and Ryan Michael Schulte; a brother, Bert of Eau Claire; and a sister-in-law, Helen Johnson of Moorseville, ID.\r\nHe was preceded in death by a grandson, Kurt William Schulte; a brother, Gordon; and two sisters, Grace and Hazel Johnson.\r\nLawrence was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved his Packers, and his grandchildren were the highlight of his life.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with Pastors Thomas W. Bryan and Ned S. Lenhart officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Washington, where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church.
