Obituary

LENORE K. GUNN, 91, formerly of Grace Edgewood Apartments, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at the Syverson Lutheran Home. She was born in Eau Claire on July 10, 1909 the daughter of Gustav and Gunvor (Sherman) Olson.Lenore married Robert L. Gunn on December 30, 1935 in Eau Claire. \r\nShe was a graduate of UW-Eau Claire Teachers College. Lenore taught sixth grade at Lincoln School in Rice Lake and at Randall and Roosevelt Schools in Eau Claire. After retiring from the Eau Claire School District in 1972, she was the first coordinator of an agency for the elderly, "Help When Needed", working with that agency until 1985. Lenore was a past president at Sam G. Davey School PTA, Central Council and Ninth District PTA and served on the State PTA Board. She served as President of the University of Eau Claire Alumni Association, and the University Women's Association. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire Retired Teachers Assoc., UW-Eau Claire Presidents Club, and member of the City of Eau Claire Zoning Board for two terms. \r\nShe volunteered at the Paul Bunyan Camp, Chippewa Valley Museum, and the Schlegelmilch House, and was active in fund raising for numerous community causes. Survivors include her daughter, Karen Lee Peterson (Duane) of St. Cloud, MN; two sons, Robert L. (Sharron) Gunn of Hebron, ME, and Patrick A. (Trudy) Gunn of Gilman; seven grandchildren, Eric (Tammy) Peterson, Krista (Ralph) Olson, Ryan and Heather Gunn, Jodi (Brian) Garvin, Brady (Sarah) Gunn and Brenda (Brian) Bestor; three great - grandchildren, Karissa and Trenton Peterson, and Jaden Olson; two sisters-in-law, Laura and Barbara Olson; many nieces, nephews and treasured friends.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1969; five brothers, G. Sherman Olson, John C. Olson, H. Robert Olson, Dr. Vernon G. Olson, and David W. Olson; and her sister, Carol F. Erickson. \r\nWe all remember her zest for life, love of music, and her Norwegian stories!\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2001 Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Andrew Boe officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.\r\nMemorials donated will be given by the family to Grace Lutheran Church and UW-Eau Claire.
