LEO A. ANDERSON, 80, of 2120 Black Ave., died Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at Dove Healthcare Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born October 31, 1920 to Daniel and Olga (Clausen) Anderson in Erskine, MN. \r\nAfter graduating from Erskine High School, Leo attended Bemidji State University. On September 3, 1940, he participated in WWII by enlisting in the U.S. Army and proudly serving his country for five years in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 22, 1945.\r\nOn October 8, 1949, Leo married Marilyn Ann Bergren in Fargo, N. D. They later made their home in Eau Claire, where Leo worked for Commercial Credit, and later as Assistant Vice President of Finance at First Wisconsin National Bank until 1981. While working for First Wisconsin, he attended the Graduate School of Banking in Madison. After he retired, Leo and Marilyn operated the Super 8 Motel in Eau Claire for eleven years.\r\nLeo was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was active in various organizations including the Democratic Party, Lions Club, Taxpayers, Moose Club, and VFW Post #305.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Marilyn; a son, Thomas (Sarah) of Scottsdale, AZ; two daughters, Jana (Spencer) Tollefson of Eau Claire and Mary Jo Anderson of Hudson; five grandchildren, Daniel, Katherine, and Johanna Anderson, Jenifer and Madeline Anderson; a brother, Walter O. (Donna) Anderson of Moorhead, MN; a sister, Luella (Robert) Vanderwahl of Erskine, MN; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walter; and an infant sister, Doris. \r\nLeo's family wishes to thank the caring staff at Dove Health Care who cared for him over the past year.\r\nA celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2001 at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
