Obituary

Leo Nichalous Court, age 82, of Eau Claire, died Monday, December 12, 2011, at home, surrounded by his family. Leo was born in St. Augusta Township, Stearns County, MN on December 24, 1928, son of Peter and Magdalena (Harren) Court. He graduated from St. Cloud Teacher's College in 1952, with degrees in Mathematics and Business Education. Leo served with the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Fort Belleview, VA, and Saalfelden, Austria, from October 1952 until his honorable discharge in October 1954. Leo married Catherine Ann Stangl in 1956, in Duluth, MN. Leo worked for Prudential Insurance Co. of America, in Aurora, MN, St. Cloud, MN and Eau Claire, from 1956 until his retirement. He earned the Charted Life Underwriter designation in 1976. Leo was a member of Sacred Heart-St. Patrick's Church since 1964, where he had served on the Parish Council, the School Board of St. Patrick, and the Regis PTO. He was also an active member and officer of the Chippewa Valley Ostomy Association, the Golden Kiwanis and the Life Underwriter's Association. He was an active volunteer at the Paul Bunyan Logging Museum. Leo was a humble, honest, hardworking man, loving husband, father and grandfather, who thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings and a good game of bridge. Leo is survived by his wife, Cathy; seven children, Mary (David) Allen of Hutchinson, MN, Thomas (Kelly) Court of Madison, WI, Susan (Mark) Haupt of DePere, WI, Andrew (Fiancee' Eva Bakken) of Eau Claire, Ann (Mark) Weber of Seattle, WA, Michael (Susan) Court of Oconomowoc, WI, and Jennifer (Paul) Steffes of Cadott, WI; fifteen grandchildren, Treb and Matthew Allen, Ryan and Justin Court, Vincent and Virginia Haupt, Holly, Isaiah and Catherine Weber, Nicholas, Rachel and Emma Court, Elizabeth, Benjamin and Samuel Steffes; two sisters, Delores (Joe) Preusser and Teresa (Norbert) Haus; sister-in-law, Barbara Court; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Dominic; two sisters and their spouses, Margaret (Roman) Hiemenz and Marie (Harvey) Wesenberg. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 322 Fulton St. Eau Claire, with Father William A. Dhein officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 1st Ave., Eau Claire, with a Public Prayer Service beginning at 6:30p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to Mass at church. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Eau Claire.
