LEO SMITH, 98, 1831 Folsom St., died Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born on October 20, 1903 to Louis and Margaret (Eide) Smith in Mondovi.\r\nHe graduated from U.W. River Falls and attended classes at U.W. Eau Claire.Leo taught woodworking at the Eau Claire Junior High School. He was Principal at Cleghorn, Bartlett, Putnam Heights, and Longfellow Schools. Leo retired from teaching in 1970. \r\nLeo married Evelyne Jones in 1933; Evelyne died in 1956. He married Marion Mesang on June 3, 1958 in Eau Claire.\r\nHe belonged to the Eau Claire Retired Teachers, Chippewa Valley Museum, and the St. Paul Post Card Club. He had been a member of Eau Claire Masonic Lodge #112 F&AM for forty years. Leo also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.\r\nHe loved spending time in his garden, collecting old postcards, sports (especially baseball), and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Marion; two sons, Jerry J. (Kathryn) of Eau Claire, and Thomas of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Mark (Bonnie) Smith of Eau Claire, Steven (Andrea) Smith of Cornell, Stephanie, and Shannon Smith; Mike (Dana) Rudd; four great-grandchildren, Jerry, Savannah, Timothy, and Amanda; several nieces and nephews; and his close friend and neighbor, Cliff Thompson.\r\nHe was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Myles "Mike" and Elmer; and two sisters, Eva Smith and Lylah Holmes.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2001 at Christ Church Cathedral, with The Very Rev. H. Scott Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery in Mondovi. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
