Leo "Lee" W. VerHagen, 78, formerly of Eau Claire, died Monday, June 24, 2002 in Bothell, WA. He was born on August 16, 1923 in Eau Claire to Henry and Rose (Liebreich) VerHagen. \r\nAt the age of eighteen, Leo moved to Joliet, Illinois where he worked in a paper mill there. He later lived in Nevada and then Bothell, Washington where he married Mavis Lewin on August 2, 1981. Mavis died in 1997.\r\nLeo was a concrete truck driver for commercial construction until his retirement.\r\nHe was a volunteer for many years at the Food Pantry and Hopelink Multi Service Center in Bothell.\r\nSurvivors include two brothers, Gerald (Mary) VerHagen of La Crosse, WI and Raymond (Carmen) VerHagen of Grafton; three sisters, Anna Mae LeBarron of Eau Claire, Irene (Eugene) Whittman of Hallie and Dorothy (George) Pfielsticker of Eau Claire; three step-children Diane Llewellyn of Seattle, WA; Linda McDowell and Michael Lewin both of Bothell; many nieces and nephews; and his friend and companion, Judy Hasund of Bothell. \r\nHe was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Henry; and three sisters, Eleanor Brick, Rosemary Nichols and Joyce VerHagen.\r\nFuneral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Pastor Gordon D. Thorpe officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, in the town of Washington.
