Obituary

Leslie O. Broberg, 85, of the Town of Brunswick, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family, while under the care of Northwest Hospice. Leslie was a kind and loving man who fought valiantly through many different health challenges over the last few years of his life. The example he set for his family and friends of what it means to take hold of hope and never lose faith through impossible circumstances will live on for many generations. \r\nLeslie was born in the Town of Albany, WI on August 14, 1923, the son of Sever and Ida (Hovde) Broberg. He attended White Block Elementary School and graduated from Durand High School in 1943. \r\nOn June 16, 1945, Leslie married his high school sweetheart, Viola A. Jackson, at Meridean Lutheran Church. Together, they began farming in the Town of Brunswick and remained on that original farm throughout his entire life.\r\nLeslie was a lifelong member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir, served as a church council member and on the parsonage building committee. He also served as treasurer of the Fair Oaks-Maple Drive School Board. Leslie's involvement in his church was indicative of his deep strong faith. His love for and faith in God through his life will be a legacy that lives on in the lives of all those he loved. \r\nLeslie was a very hard worker but he had several hobbies that he enjoyed. His favorites were fishing, playing on the dart-ball league, playing cribbage and 500, gardening and riding his four-wheeler. He loved having his grandkids visit him on the farm so he could share his love of nature, animals and farming with them. \r\nLeslie was very blessed to have such a large family. He is survived by his wife, Viola; two children, Sharon (Henry) Schank of Altoona, Dean (Penny) Broberg of Ham Lake, MN; five grandchildren, Lisa (Karl) Kundel, Brad (Misty) Stewart, Michelle (Justin) Farner, Curtis Broberg, Rachael (Scott) Morton; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Stanley (Doris) Broberg of Rock Falls; three sisters, Mildred Kurtz and Dorothy Kent both of Eau Claire, and Ruth (Clem) Hayden of Rock Falls; sisters-in-law, Judy Jackson of Meridean and Carol Broberg of Rock Falls; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gordon (Elsie) and Russell (Katie); and four brothers-in-law, George Kent, Robert Kurtz, George (Inga) Jackson, and Albert Jackson.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church with Pastor Dale Horner officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.\r\nThe family requests that memorials be directed to the charity of your choice in Leslie's name. \r\n
