Obituary

Lina "Savina" Guadagno age 80, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at home under the care of family and Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice. Savina was born in the town of San Martino, Della Battaglia, Northern Italy, in 1936, to her parents, Luigi and Marcellina Rossato. Savina grew up on a northern Italian farm, being one of 16 brothers and sisters. She was the second youngest child. Savina had fond memories of her family on the farm and often told stories of her joking around with her brothers and sisters. On the farm, Savina helped raise animals and grow wheat and grapes. They produced bread, grappa, and wine, which was sold to local restaurants. As a young adult, her family moved to Milan, where she worked in factories to help support her family. Savina met and fell in love with her husband, Pietro Guadagno, when he came to visit her family. They were married three months later and celebrated their 56th anniversary this year. She made her journey with him to the United States and settled in Eau Claire, WI. Pietro and Savina raised three children, Marcellina, Antonio, and Maria. Pietro and Savina had seven grandchildren, Trevin, Matthew, Christopher, Lindsey, Gianni, Vincent, and Fred. For many years, Savina worked at Timm's Dairy in the East Hill neighborhood where she made numerous friends and became a warm, familiar face to many. Savina had a strong Catholic faith and a special bond with Saint Padre Pio, whom she met at a mass in Italy when she was a young woman. She credited him for her miraculous recovery of a childhood sickness and relied on him to give her great comfort throughout many illnesses during her life. Savina loved cooking and feeding everyone. She would exclaim "Mangia! Mangia!" as she reloaded your plate without warning. She learned American culture from her lifelong friends, Connie Aumann and Anna Smith. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to knit. She made curtains for the local school and knitted scarves to help her granddaughter's dance teams raise money on several occasions. Savina was a gentle, warm, loving person, and a good listener. She would make everyone feel extra special. Her high spirits and infectious personality will live on through every person who had an opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with her. Savina is survived by her children, Marcy (Kent) Carlson, Tony (Cindy) Guadagno, Maria (Brian) Parish; grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Carlson, Gianni and Vincent Guadagno, Trevin and Lindsey Overby, and Fred Parish; sister, Elena, in Italy; and many nieces and nephews. Savina was preceded in death by her husband Pietro, on Oct 11, 2016; her parents; and 14 brothers and sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am, on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave, Eau Claire, with Father Don Meuret officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass at church, on Friday. Burial will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.
