Lois Evelyn Giammona, 93, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at her side, and following a short battle with heart disease, on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, WI. Lois was born on September 1, 1919, in Eau Claire to William and Mary (Plemon) Heiman. She attended Eau Claire Senior High. Lois met her sweetheart, Peter Giammona and they married in 1937 in Hurley, WI. They journeyed to Grand Rapids, MI, where they lived until 1947. Lois and Pete came back to Eau Claire, where they established Pete's 5th Avenue Bar. Along with their three children, they welcomed to their family, their youngest son, Johnny. Lois's hobbies included playing cards with family and friends, going to Bingo with her mother and sister, Sandy, and BBQ's with her mother and Ted Coffin. She also enjoyed going on trips to Florida, Las Vegas, and Lake Chetek with family and friends. Lois enjoyed swimming in the river, lakes, and at the YMCA. Grandpa Pete always said she was a "lady of the water". Christmas was always a special time for her. Lois was a very charitable person, helping out her friends and family and to those in need. She will be remembered for her ready wit, joyful laughter and smile, but most of all, she was a role model to all of her family and friends. She always had a listening ear, wisdom and understanding to share. Lois took pride in her four children, Sandra Jean, Joseph, Marylee, and Johnny; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved thrift sales and loved helping her kids with their thrift sales. Lois was a wonderful cook and baker. Lois is survived by her sister, Sandra Erdman; children, Sandra Giammona, Joseph (Mary) Giammona, Marylee (Meriland "Pearly") Johnson, and John (Becky) Giammona; 18 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Giammona; parents; a brother, Lamoine Heiman; a sister, Lorraine Davis; and a grandson, Peter J. Giammona. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 322 Fulton St. in Eau Claire with Monsignor John Joseph Giammona officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Private Family Inurnment will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012, at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Eau Claire.
