Lois M. Thompson, 80, formerly of 1809 8th St., Eau Claire died Monday, August 20, 2007, at Woodland Cottage in Eau Claire. She was born in Mondovi, Wisconsin on January 29, 1927, a daughter of Martin and Julia (Thompson) Thorson. She graduated from Mondovi High School with the class of 1945.\r\nLois married Marvin Thompson on October 1, 1947, in Mondovi. Following their marriage they moved to Eau Claire where they joined First Lutheran Church. Lois was an original member of the church Altar Guild and Love Circle.\r\nFollowing Marvin's death in 1977, she became active in league bowling. In 1986, Lois had the women's league high score game. She continued bowling into her 70's and was honored with the state Grand Duchess Award in 1997. \r\nShe worked over 30 years as a telephone operator for Wisconsin Bell / Ameritech until her retirement in 1991.\r\nShe was a member of the Retired Member's Club, Telephone Pioneer's, Birthday Club, and active with the Operator's Reunion. Lois was also a member of The Samaritan Club at Luther Hospital, and a former member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 1408.\r\nShe was always lovingly involved in following the activities of her children and grandchildren.\r\nLois is survived by her three daughters, Cindy (Butch) Nicolai and Jane (Don) Loken both of Eau Claire, and Mary (Rich) Wampole of Chippewa Falls; her son, Roger (Elly) Thompson of Wausau; ten grandchildren, Ann Nicolai (Marty Hoeck), Kristi Bennett, Kate (Rick) Fjelstad, Maggie (Daniel) Kusiak, Peter and Keith Wampole, Jessie and Julia Loken, and Sgt. Matthew and Erik Thompson; great grandchildren, Dylan and Danica Henning, Randi Hoeck, Jonathan Miland, Connor Bennett, Trystan and Cole Kusiak, Camryn and Jack Fjelstad, and another one on the way; her sister, Carol Oatman of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Thorson of Augusta and Leannah Thompson of Mondovi; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and her good friend and neighbor, Jo Larson.\r\nShe was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Luke Thompson; three brothers, James, Duane, and Wallace Thorson; and five sisters, Cleo Davis, Toots Stanton, Margaret Vogler, Donna Holm, and Joan Thiese.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2007, at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Amy Odgren officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.\r\nLois's family extends their deep appreciation to the staffs of Northwest Wisconsin Hospice and Woodland Cottage for their loving care.
