Lola I. Swanson, 83, of Altoona, died on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at Sacred Heart Hospital, after a brief illness. Lola was born on January 10, 1931, to Clifford and Dorothy Nichols in Eau Claire, and grew up in Eau Claire. She attended North Central Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 1954 to 1956. She was employed in Minneapolis in insurance offices and attorneys offices, and from 1959 to 1969 was Secretary and Supervisor in the Spiritual Counseling Department of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. In June of 1969, Lola married Rev. Obed E. Swanson of Eau Claire. They accepted the pastorate of the Galesville, Wisconsin Assembly of God Church and were there from 1969 to 1989. Since Lola and her husband were both musically talented, music was an enjoyable part of their ministry. They retired in Eau Claire, still being active in ministering to shut-ins in the nursing homes, and were members of the Evangel Assembly of God Church. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Lola is survived by her daughter, Tami (Randy) Bradford of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Cheraya Swanson (fiancé Logan Quinn), Devin Ruscin, Shayla Ruscin, and Brayden Bradford, all of Eau Claire; great-grandchild, Elianah Swanson; 4 sisters, Virginia Smith of White Bear Lake, MN, June Tuton of Auburn, CA, Alice (James) Rapp of Eau Claire, and Naomi Nichols-Lawell of North St. Paul, MN; brother, Dr. David (Debbie) Nichols of Kirksville, MO; sister-in-law, Raquel Swanson of Puerto Rico; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Obed; brothers-in-law, Don Smith, Cliff Tuton, Ken Lawell, and Duane Swanson; sisters-in- law Vonnie Nichols and Eudora Brown.
