Obituary

LOWELL J. CHAMPION, age 69, formerly of Eau Claire, passed away July 15, 1998 at his residence in Cottonwood, Arizona. He was born on March 25, 1929 in Minneapolis,MN, to Philo and Eleanor (Hilsgen) Champion and moved to Eau Claire with his parents early in his childhood, where he resided until his entry in to the U.S. Army in 1946.\r\nHe was a telegrapher for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad in Utah, then relocated to Chicago, IL where he worked with electronics associated firms. On January 2, 1963 he entered federal civil service with the Bureau of Naval Weapons, in Forest Park, IL until December 5, 1970. Lowell then transferred to the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station in Keyport,WA and remained there from December 6, 1970 until his retirement from civil service on March 31, 1989. Lowell relocated to Cottonwood, AZ, in the summer of 1993 and remained there until his death.\r\nSurvivors include three brothers, Russell (Annette) Madison, WI, Gary (Yvonne) and Steven (Nancy) both of Eau Claire; four nephews and one niece.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ronald and Peter.\r\nPrivate graveside services will be held at Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the town of Washington.\r\nLowell's family will receive guests from 2 to 4 p.m. on August 1, at the home of Steven Champion at 828 Maple St.\r\n
