Lucille E. Thomas, 89, of Eau Claire, died on Friday, February 20, 2009 at Dove Healthcare in Eau Claire under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.\r\nShe was born in Oconto, WI, on August 11, 1919, the daughter of Herman and Josephine (Chezek) Schmoniak. Lucy graduated from Oconto High School and worked as a legal secretary.\r\nLucy married Dr. F.W. Thomas on June 3, 1939, and later worked as his office manager. Together, Lucille and her husband shared a lifelong hobby in the designing and building of their home on Garfield Avenue in Eau Claire. The design was unique in many ways, as were the problems, but it was a challenge they enjoyed together.\r\nIn 1973, Lucy graduated from UWEC with honors, majoring in English and Philosophy.\r\nLucy was active in local affairs, serving on the City of Eau Claire Planning Commission, L.E. Phillips Public Library Board, and the Mental Health Association. In addition, she served on the Wisconsin Housing Board, and several other county committees. She was a member of the Eau Claire Women's Club, and served on the board for the State Federation of Women's Club. She was an active volunteer for many organizations in the Eau Claire area.\r\nLucille was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eau Claire, where she loved music and singing in the Church Choir for many years. \r\nShe is survived by two nieces, Sherry Woldron and Sandy Steinberg.\r\nPreceding her in death, were her husband; her parents; and a brother, Alvin Schmoniak.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eau Claire with the Rev. Dr. Mark X. Pirazzini officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire.\r\nMemorials are preferred to First Congregational U.C.C., 310 Broadway St., Eau Claire, WI 54703.\r\n
