Obituary

LULU M. WELKE, 82, of 3376 Delbert Rd., passed away Friday, January 16, 1998 at her home. She was born April 25, 1915 to Theodore and Edna (Smith)Thompson in the Town of Preston,Trempealeau County near Whitehall. \r\nLulu married Harold Shope in Whitehall in August 1934, he passed away in 1944. She had worked at Hotel Eau Claire and the Gillete Tire Co. She married Ralph A. Welke on June 13, 1958 in Wakon, IA. They owned and operated the Snow White Laundry in Eau Claire and the Mondovi Laundry when they retired. Lulu was a very active member of Jehovah's Witnesses in Eau Claire. \r\nSurvivors include a daughter, Mary Simonson of Eau Claire; four grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Emmeline (Gerald) Gray of Eau Claire; a brother, Otis Thompson of Whitehall; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; a son, John Shope Sr.; her parents; and a brother, Ernest Thompson.\r\nLulu was a very loving mother and grandmother, she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home with Presiding Minister Russell A. Johnson of Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. Burial will be in Old Whitehall Cemetery near Whitehall,WI. Friends may call an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
