Obituary

Lyman P. Thalacker, 74, of Eau Claire died Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at Luther Hospital. He was born in Mondovi, Wisconsin on August 29, 1930, the son of Paul A. and Hattie (Nichols) Thalacker.\r\nLyman moved to Eau Claire in 1954, and entered the U.S. Army on October 5, 1954 serving until his honorable discharge on October 5, 1956. He then went into a corporate apprenticeship with L.G. Arnold and worked there for nine years. In 1965 Lyman and partner, Dennis Endl started Dell Construction, and in 1979 they formed Lyden Company. Following his retirement in 1992, he continued to operate Lyden Company.\r\nLyman married Lois Marie Finstead on April 13, 1957, at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.For the last twelve years they wintered in Mesa, AZ. Among his hobbies were camping, fishing, taking trips to Canada with his sons and friends, and his love for woodworking, where he created many works of art. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's soccer, basketball, football, and baseball games.\r\nHe was a member of First Lutheran Church and Moose Lodge #1408.\r\nSurvivors include his wife of 48 years, Lois; three sons, Scott (Bonnie), Chris (Brenda) and Jon (Kim) Thalacker all of Eau Claire; daughter, Jill (Greg) Backhaus of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren, Paul, Colin, Jacob, Joshua, Brianna, Cody, Madi and Cooper Thalacker; three sisters, Elaine Hagen and Rosie (Merrol) Nelson both of Eau Claire, and Jane (Richard) Emerson of Eleva; brother-in-law, John Finstead; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Edna and Edwin Finstead; brother-in-law, Vern Hagen and a sister-in-law, Mary Finstead\r\nLyman was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and will be missed by all.\r\nFuneral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005, at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Amy Odgren officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.\r\nMemorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54703.\r\n
