Obituary

Lynn Anthony Peterson, 81, of Altoona, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015, at John Muir Medical Center in Concord, California. Lynn was born in Eau Claire on March 31, 1933, to Chester and Gertrude (Hawkins) Peterson of Strum. He graduated from Eleva-Strum High School in 1951, and subsequently enrolled at the University of Green Bay. After two years in Green Bay, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served primarily as a Military Policeman, stationed in Germany, until he was honorably discharged in August, 1955. He then enrolled at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and after a short stint as an art major settled on studying Engineering. Lynn married Lila Rosenthal on September 6, 1958, at Drammen Lutheran Church in Eau Claire County. Lila joined him in Madison where she worked while Lynn finished his degree in Civil Engineering. Following graduation, he went to work for the Department of Transportation in Madison, eventually returning to the Eau Claire area and settling in Altoona, where they raised their three children. Lynn retired from the Department of Transportation in 1990, and founded Palzkill, Peterson & Associates, an Engineering Consulting firm, where he worked until fully retiring in 1997. Lynn was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed sharing his passion for hunting, fishing, and golf with his children, grandchildren, nephews, and friends. He liked to spend time with his family and friends at his cottage on Lower Long Lake in New Auburn and at a family hunting property in Trempealeau County. Lynn was also active in the Altoona community serving on the City Planning Commission and serving multiple terms on the Altoona School Board. Lynn is survived by his three children, Michael (Beth) of New Auburn, James (Pamela) of Walnut Creek, CA, and Kathleen of Inver Grove Heights, MN; four grandchildren, Derek, Chester, Michael, and Chloe'; and also by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila; his parents; his brother, Dennis; and his sister, Yvonne (Kunes). Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1804 Highland Ave. in Eau Claire with Pastor Nathan Aaseng officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington with Military Honors conducted by the Eau Claire American Legion Post # 53. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater WI, 404 ½ N. Bridge St. Chippewa Falls, WI 54729.
