Madeleine (Maddie) E. Grant, 89, of Eau Claire, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2011, with wonderful care at the Clairemont Nursing and Rehab Center in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.\r\nMaddie was born in Shagamoc Falls, New Brunswick, Canada on June 20, 1921. She was one of six children born to Edwin and Vera (Grant) Grant.\r\nMaddie lived and cared for her parents in Michigan until the passing of her mother. Her brother, Vernon, was chosen by their mother to be her caretaker at that time. Maddie was a gift; special by all accounts. \r\nMaddie came to Eau Claire and began a new life with her "bubba" Vern and his wife, Kathy. She worked at DTC (REACH) and loved it. She embraced all who she was near and brought her bright smile to everyone. Maddie was a joyful soul with a wonderful kind spirit. Maddie cared for all those who cared for her. Just as Maddie loved her parents, she loved everyone. Maddie enjoyed the simple things in life; friends, laughter, food and parties. For the past 11 years, Maddie received another gift; an angel and caretaker, Christine. \r\nIn Maddie's Mother's words quoted from her last letter of love and gratitude to Maddie~"Dear Lord, when her time comes to go to be with you, will you be as kind to her as she was to her parents; the parents you sent her to, many years ago"\r\nMadeline is survived by her three brothers, Brian Grant of New Orleans, LA, Vernon L. (Kathy) Grant of Eau Claire, and Gordon (Janet) Grant of Royal Oak, MI; and many nieces and nephews; and her beloved caretaker, Christine.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ellis Grant; and a sister, Calla Somers.\r\nA Gathering in Maddie's honor will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 1st Ave. Eau Claire, WI. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery, in Troy, Michigan. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
