MANLEY J. "TUFF" JOHNSON, 85, of 6581 Hwy 93, Eau Claire, passed away suddenly Thursday, July 23, 1998 at Luther Hospital. He was born on June 13, 1913 in Eau Claire to John and Alice (Jacot) Johnson. Tuff married Gertrude M. Krenz on June 15, 1950 in Fall Creek.\r\nHe worked at the paper mill in Eau Claire for 41 years until his retirement in 1978. Tuff also enjoyed working on his farm in the town of Washington.\r\nSurvivors include, his wife, Gertrude; a son, Michael of Eau Claire; a daughter, Mary (John) Thurow of Minneapolis; two grandsons, Ben and Zach Thurow; a brother, Howard (Gladys) of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Merton and two sisters, Betty Tumm and Adele Running.\r\nMemorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Joseph A. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home.
