Obituary

Marcus F. Koosmann, 85 of Spring Park, MN, formerly of Eau Claire, WI, died Monday, February 5, 1996, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, MN as a result of respiratory failure.\r\nMarcus was born April 24, 1910 in Max, North Dakota, to Paul and Anna (Seehafer) Koosmann. His life as a circuit preacher's son took him to several communities in North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He attended high school at the St. Paul Luther Academy and graduated from Glenwood City High School. After graduation he taught in a one room school near Clear Lake, Wisconsin.\r\nOn May 29, 1941, he married Alice Holmson in Glenwood City. They moved to River Falls where he worked for the Federal Land Bank. In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army where he served as an interpreter during World War II in France and Germany, as part of the military government. He was honorably discharged November 30, 1945. After the war he received his Bachelor of Science degree from UW River Falls. In River Falls he worked as an agent for Lutheran Brotherhood life Insurance. In 1955, the family moved to Eau Claire where he served as a general agent for Lutheran Brotherhood and earned recognition as a Certified Life Underwriter and was honored as "Man of the Year" by his local industry. In later years he was an estate planner for Equitable Life of Iowa and vice president of Pension Planners, Inc.\r\nMarcus was a long term and active member of Grace Lutheran Church where in the 1960's he created the Adult Social Concerns Program, which continues today. He served on the board of directors for the Wisconsin chapter of Common Cause and was a member of Hillcrest country Club. He took great pride in his years of involvement with the Kinship Program, an agency which provides adult companionship and guidance to children of need. His deep concern for social awareness reached many. \r\nSurvivors include a daughter, Constance (Lynn) Suydam of Belleville, IL; a son, Charles (Jill) Koosmann of Afton,MN; seven grandchildren, Brent, Maren and Ladd of Belleville, IL, and Elizabeth, Anna, Marcus and Katherine of Afton, MN; a brother, Paul (Lavern) Koosmann of Brainerd, MN; a sister, Erna (Harlan) Larson of Edina, MN; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Alice in 1989, and two brothers, Gerhard and Ruben.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 11 A.M. Saturday, February 10, at Grace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire with Dr. Willis S. Gertner officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood City Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 P.M. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home, Eau Claire and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.\r\nThe Family requests that memorials be directed to the Grace Lutheran Church Adult Social Concerns Educational Program.
