Margaret C. Smith, 95, of Eau Claire, died on Friday, March 07, 2014, at her daughter's home under the care of Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice. Margaret was born in Elmwood, WI on July 24, 1918, to Guy and Lillie (Smith) Phillips. On July 25, 1939, she married Alvin J. Smith in Durand, WI. Margaret enjoyed listening to music, dancing, bowling, playing cards, gardening, helping cook and serve banquet dinners at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and baking. Margaret was known as "the cookie lady" by neighborhood children who enjoyed her home baked treats. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Home Makers Club. Margaret is survived by six children, Alvin (Carol) Smith of Juneau, WI, Lyle (Mary Lu) Smith of Long Prairie, MN, Joyce McFarlane of Eau Claire, Michael Smith of Chippewa Falls, Tammy (Jeff) Goldsmith of Eau Claire, and Tonya (Dale) Beebe of Eau Claire; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Sylvester (Phyllis) Phillips of Durand; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her very special friends, Pamela and Roland Hicks. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; twin sister, Marjorie Wangen; sisters, Fern Trainor, Virginia Johnson, and Ruth Phillips; and a sister in infancy. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave., Eau Claire, with Fr. Donald Meuret officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to Mass at church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Eau Claire at a later date.
