Obituary

Margery C. Close, age 83, beloved and loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Lake Hallie Memory Care. Marge was born on April 30, 1932, to John and Bernadine (Bement) Stubbs. It was from John and Bernadine that she inherited a strong will and sense of fun that characterized her entire life. Marge, known as "Margie" back then, graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1950. It was at Eau Claire Senior High where Margery met Demoyn Close, her high school sweetheart, who was destined to become her lifelong sweetheart. He chased her and chased her until she caught him. Marge and Moyn were married on October 3, 1953 and enjoyed 53 years of partnership, parenting, and grandparenting. Upon completion of high school, Marge went to work for First Wisconsin Bank, now U.S. Bank, until Moyn's return from his Korean War service at which point they married and started a family. Marge returned to work at the bank once all of her children were in school and remained employed there until her retirement. Marge's true passion, however, was her family. She especially enjoyed family boating outings that occurred every summer weekend on Lake Wissota. She was an avid reader who organized regular family field trips to the public library. She was a tireless cheerleader and supporter of all of her children's various activities and pursuits. Every family gathering was an event engineered by Marge punctuated with stories, laughter, seemingly endless supplies of the best food ever, and plenty of wine. Her cream cheese brownies were legendary. Marge was a lover of music who seemed to know the words to nearly every song ever written. Family participation in Saturday morning house cleaning was mandatory and always completed with Elvis providing the soundtrack. Marge had a close circle of friends with whom she and Moyn enjoyed lunches, dinner parties, and Friday night happy hours at Sweetwater's. As a group, they were active in the Danzarin Dance Club for many years. In later years, Marge cherished all opportunities to spend time with her grandchildren. She had the capacity to play Barbies or board games for hours, dispensing snacks and life lessons, and teaching a few songs along the way. She will be missed by all who were privileged to know her. Marge is survived by her children, Linda (Eric) Broderson of Stillwater, MN, and their children, Allie Broderson and John Broderson; Tim (Karen) Close of Madison and their children, Baylee Close and Matthew Close; Jeff (Jeri) Close of Madison and their children, Danielle Bailey and Scott Close; and Catherine (Pat) Smith of Eau Claire and their children, Josh Smith and Jake Smith. Marge was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Demoyn. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave, Eau Claire, with Father Francis Diaz officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service and Time of Reflection beginning at 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, January 10, 2016, at the WEST CHAPEL of Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave, Eau Claire. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire. Donations will be given to Margery's favorite charities, including the Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to thank the staff of Lake Hallie Memory Care for providing care, compassion, and music to Marge. To express online condolences, please visit, obituaries at www.lenmarkfh.com.
