Maridean Vick Hagens passed away August 28, 2024 at her home in Eau Claire. She was born February 7, 1926 to Edgar and Ruth Stai Vick in Loyal, Wisconsin, and grew up on a farm there. She graduated from University of Wisconsin -Eau Claire with a degree in elementary education. She was married for 65 years to Lawrence A. Hagens.
Mrs. Hagens taught in Mauston and Chippewa Falls and retired from St. James the Greater Catholic School. She was a lifelong volunteer giving many hours to Sacred Heart Hospital and St. James Church and School. Mr. & Mrs. Hagens were charter members of St. James Parish.
Mary enjoyed ballroom dancing and square dancing with Merry Mixers Square Dance Club. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and treasured memories of trips to all 50 States and Europe. Her hobbies included sewing and quilting and treasured the opportunity to make "wedding quilts" for her grandchildren. Mary's greatest treasure was the love she had for her family and her strong faith in the Lord.
Mary is survived by her (their) seven children and spouses: Sandra (& Gerald) Hanson, Ashburn, VA; Richard Hagens, Sun Prairie; Cynthia (& John) Swenson, New Auburn; Barbara Running, Eau Claire; Nancy (& Mike) Caven, Ashland; Kathleen (& Thomas) Vande Berg, Baldwin; Suzanne (& Christopher) Golden, Marshfield. Also surviving Mary are 15 grandchildren and their spouses; 29 great-grandchildren and sister, Lorna Holmes, Janesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence, daughter-in-law Barbara Hagens, son-in-law Steve Running, brother Dale Vick and sister Jean Schachtely Wasson.
Mass of Christian burial is at 12PM on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th Street, with Father Tom Krieg officiating. Visitation will be held at 10 am up until time of service at the Church. Interment will be at Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire.
Mary was a member of Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW) who will provide an honor guard for the funeral and say the rosary before the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in Mary's name to St. James the Greater Church or St. James School.
