Obituary

Marie J. Steubing, 89, of Eau Claire, died on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at Angelspace in Eau Claire.\r\nShe was born in Eau Claire on May 14, 1919, a daughter of Michael and Mary (Stopfer) Hagmann. She attended elementary and two years of high school at Sacred Heart School, and then attended Eau Claire Senior High School graduating in 1937. Marie then went to Eau Claire School of Cosmetology. \r\nAfter graduating she worked in several beauty salons until 1942 when she was united in marriage on October 5, 1942, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church to Howard F. Steubing, who was then in the Navy.\r\nWhen Howard was sent overseas Marie went to work at the Eau Claire Ordinance Plant. She later worked at the Presto Plant until 1944 when Howard was wounded and received a medical discharge. \r\nThis loving couple enjoyed the outdoors together, especially fishing and hunting. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in October of 2002, with relatives and friends. \r\nMarie is survived by her brother, Norbert (Betty) Hagmann and sister Bernice (Hagmann) Kassing both of Eau Claire; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Bob) Olson of Holcombe, WI and Sun City, AZ; brother-in-law, Art (June) Steubing of Irvine, CA; three sisters-in-law, Rose Hagmann and Mary Claire Hagmann both of Eau Claire, and Pauline Hagmann of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard in 2003; an infant daughter, Mary Ann; five brothers, Lawrence, Alfred, Art, Richard, and Father James Hagmann; a sister, Eleanor Feeney; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Steubing) Steiro and Agnes (Woletz) Hagmann; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Feeney and Harold Kassing.\r\nMass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2008, at St. Olaf Catholic Church with Father Brian Konopa officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. There will be a 7 p.m. public Parish Vigil Prayer Service Sunday at the funeral home.\r\n
