Marjorie "Marge" E. Gabriel, 97, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, January 4, 2018. She was a proud Shawtown resident for 63 years. She was born in Whitehall, WI, on December 16, 1920, a daughter of Clarence and Hulda (Estenson) Schaefer. Marge graduated from Whitehall High School. Following her attendance at the Milwaukee School of Business, Marge became Clerk of Court for Trempealeau County. Marge married Lawrence "Lars" L. Gabriel on September 4, 1948, in Elkader, IA. Following their marriage, Marge and Lars moved to Eau Claire, where Marge worked for the Wisconsin Department of Social Services for many years until her retirement. Marge enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Rock Dam, gardening, cross-stitching, and was an avid lover of dogs. Music was very important to Marge and was considered an accomplished pianist. She enjoyed sharing her musical talent with the community at The Classic at Hillcrest Greens, where she currently resided. Marge is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Kaslow of Edina, MN, Margaret Ann Smith and Joanne (John) Gilboy both of Eau Claire; nine grandchildren, Michael (Terry) Kaslow, Laura Kennedy, Julie Halverson, and Kimberly (Nate) Stanek, Matthew (Jen Loken) Smith, Timothy (Margi-Ann Goin) Smith, Kate (Andrew Nord) Gilboy, Mike Gilboy and Allison (Darren) Frawley; nine great-grandchildren, Sam and Nora Kennedy, Clare, Gabe and Sylvie Stanek, Lars Halverson, Peyton Steward, Aubrey and Ben Frawley; and a brother, David (Linda) Schaefer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lars; parents; brother, Harland (Phyllis) Schaefer; and twin great-granddaughters, Grace and McKenna Steward. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Eau Claire County Humane Association, 3900 Old Town Hall Rd., Eau Claire, WI 54701. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1804 Highland Ave. in Eau Claire, with Pastor Christine Emerson officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire and again one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire.
