Obituary

Pastor Marshall Everett Hall III, age 87, of Eau Claire, WI, died at Grace Woodlands Assisted Living in Eau Claire on November 6, 2015, surrounded by his family. Marshall was born March 18, 1928 in Eddyville, Nebraska, the son of Marshall and Sibyl (McCrory) Hall. He graduated from McGrath High School, McGrath, MN in 1946 and then served in the U.S. Army in Japan 1946-48. Further education included: Dunwoody Industrial Institute, University of MN, Mankato Campus, and Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN. On June 20, 1953 he was united in marriage to Joy Elaine Ellingson at Lone Rock Lutheran Church, Flandreau, South Dakota. In the early years of marriage, Marshall combined work, study, and starting a family of three children: Miriam, Mark and Marius. Following seminary graduation in 1961, he served parishes in Independence, Sand Creek, Stanley, Eau Claire, Menomonie and Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Marshall was passionate about pastoral ministry and communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was energetic in preaching, teaching, serving and caring for others. He had a special gift for bringing people together and building community. Marshall was a lifelong learner enjoying history, genealogy, archeology, aviation and travel. He expressed creativity in gardening, working with glass art, painting, woodworking and refinishing furniture. Marshall will be missed by the family he loved and treasured, including: Joy, his loving wife of 62 years; daughter, Miriam (Mike) Soppeland of Princeton, MN; two sons, Mark (Naomi) Hall of River Falls, WI, and Marius Hall; five grandchildren, Erik (Laura) Hall, Julie (Randy) Coffman, Evan Hall, Peter Hall, and Amy Soppeland; one sister, Barbara Nordberg of Coon Rapids, MN; three brothers, Wayne Hall of Winchester, KY, Robert (Betsy) Hall of Rock Hill, SC, and James (Sandie) Hall of Waynesboro, VA; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Sibyl Hall, and brother-in-law Wayne Nordberg. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave, Eau Claire, WI. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire, WI. Memorials may be given to Luther Park Bible Camp, Chetek, WI. Arrangements are with Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Eau Claire.
