Obituary

Marshall A. Larson, 82, of 3226 6th Street, Eau Claire died Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at his home after a long courageous bout with cancer. Marshall, known to his friends as "Peanuts" was born on February 28, 1920 to Anton and Marie (Carlson) Larson in Eau Claire, WI. As a young boy, he delivered both the morning and evening papers for the Eau Claire Press Company. He did this until graduation from high school when he began working full time at the Eau Claire Press Company. He retired as Pressroom Superintendent in l982.\r\nMarshall enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. He served in World War II in the South Pacific aboard the fleet tanker Rio Grande. He was an original crewmember (plank owner) aboard the ship. \r\nMarshall married Clohe B. Skamser on May 31, 1941. Together they raised seven children. Until poor health prevented it, Marshall and Clohe spent their winters golfing in Texas. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed baseball, horseshoe, bowling and golf. He pitched softball for the Eau Claire Press Company for many years. Marshall loved the outdoors. His family has many fond memories of time spent hunting and fishing at their cabin in Drummond, WI. At age 80 he bagged a 10 point buck. He left his children and grandchildren a legacy of love and appreciation for the outdoors. He was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway and VFW Post 305. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. Marshall and Clohe served as Royal Patron and Royal Matron of the Amaranth.\r\nHe is survived by Clohe, his wife of 61 years; three daughters, Janet Gelein of Rochester, NY, Mary (William) Quinlan of Davenport, FL, and Sue(Barry) Bernicke of Eau Claire; four sons, Mark (Darlene) of Glenwood Springs CO, Robert of Drummond, Jim (Jayne) of Green Bay, and John of Eau Claire; ten grandchildren, Cristen, Kelly, Dana, Derek, Pam, Ty, Jodi, Erik, Jenny and Chloe; a great granddaughter, Kali; and numerous nieces and nephews\r\nMarshall was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Melvin, Lawrence, Alvin and Alf; and a sister, Mabel Schlewitz.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002 at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday the church. Burial will be in the Lutheran Church Cemetery where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites.\r\nMarshall loved his family. His fun-loving spirit, laughter and devotion will remain in their hearts.
