Marvin I. Gorton, 87, of Eau Claire, died on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire, after a short illness. He was born in Richland Center, WI, on February 20, 1926, to Elmer and Neoma (Powell) Gorton. They lived in several Wisconsin cities before settling in Eau Claire. He married Esther R. Kumferman, his wife of 65 years, on December 31, 1947, in Stillwater, MN. As a young man, Marvin enjoyed skiing and joined Flying Eagles Ski Club as a ski jumper. He later developed an interest in working on cars and began doing auto body work. Marvin worked for Superior Auto Body and Trubilt Body Shop for over 50 years. He also restored antique cars for Gene Grengs' Cavalcade of Cars Museum. Marvin's work was featured in several magazines and newspaper articles, winning several awards. He also owned two of his own antique cars and would take them to parades and participate in many car shows. Marvin was a member of the Indianhead Car Club and the Lake Hallie Sportsman's Club. He also enjoyed fishing and grilling for people and events. Some of his happiest memories were spent with his family, fishing with his grandson, Ryan, and spending time with his beloved dachshund, Mandy. Marvin is survived by his wife, Esther; children, Connie(Rick) Gorud and Barbara (Gary) Christopherson; grandchildren, Brian (Sharon) and Rick Roberge, Laura (Nathan) Faul, Bethany (Matt) Hagen, Ryan and Erik Christopherson; 9 great- grandchildren; sister, Karen (Howard) Bain; and several dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Chauncey Gorton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, with Dennis Queeman officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire.
