Obituary

Marvin Eugene Johnson, age 80, of Eau Clare, died Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Dove Healthcare West-Eau Claire, with his family by his side after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and dementia. Marvin was born January 10, 1933, in Eau Claire, WI, to Melvin and Geneva (Benrud) Johnson. In 1952, he graduated from Eau Claire Senior High. After graduation, he joined the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1953. He then started working at Uniroyal where he took an early retirement after 37 years. While employed with Uniroyal, Marvin took a leave to complete a degree in Drafting in Rice Lake. In 1956, at one of his favorite hangouts, Fournier's Ballroom, Marvin met the love of his life, Nancy Heiman. They were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on June 22, 1957. They loved dancing together, especially on roller skates. Marvin really loved God and his church. For many years he was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church teaching Sunday school, Confirmation and helping as an Usher. He so looked forward to Sunday morning. One of his favorite times of the year was when he would be able to go deer hunting with his father-in-law and later his boys. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards with his mother-in-law, chess with the neighbor kids, darts and pitching horseshoes, both for fun and in tournaments. Marvin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy; one daughter, Jackie (Steve) Hansen, of Altoona, and four sons, Rick (Carol) of Glendale, AZ, Ken of Blaine, MN, Kevin and Darrin (Cyndi) both of Eau Claire; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jeannine (Johnson) Capaul of Alma Center and many other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-parents; a sister, Yvonne (Johnson) Heath; and granddaughter, Annie. The Johnson family is very grateful to all the wonderful staff at Dove Healthcare West and Community Health Partners (ContinuUs) for the great care they have provided our family over the past several years. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1804 Highland Ave. in Eau Claire, with Pastor Nathan Aaseng officiating. Visitation will be from Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #53, at a later date.
