Obituary

Obituary for Mary Ann Hanson November 4, 1975 – March 24, 2026

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we celebrate Mary Hanson, who passed away on March 24, 2026. Mary’s life was a radiant example of kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for others.

Mary was deeply devoted to her community and her faith, serving with joy and dedication at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Through her work with children, youth, and family ministries, she created spaces where everyone felt welcome, valued, and truly seen. Her impact will continue to ripple through the many lives she touched.

Professionally, Mary was a beloved teaching assistant at Flynn Elementary, where her warmth, patience, and genuine care made her a favorite among students, staff, and families alike. She had a special gift for making every child feel important and capable, leaving a lasting imprint on countless young hearts.

Mary’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She is lovingly survived by her parents, Gerald and Dorothy Pryse; her devoted husband, Ben Hanson; and their cherished children, Owen Philip and Emory Thomas. She is also survived by her siblings: Jim (Melissa) Pryse, Philip (Shelly) Pryse, and Nancy (Bob) Blaschke; and her in-laws Gene, Mary, Beth and Kari Hanson (Marquez Guzman). She is further survived by many adored nieces, nephews, and even great-nephews and a great-niece who brought her endless pride and happiness.

Mary truly exuded light and love. Her life’s mission was simple yet profound: to ensure that every person she encountered felt accepted for exactly who they are and deeply loved and valued. She lived this mission every day—in her work, her church, her friendships, and her family life.

Outside of her many roles, Mary found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved early mornings spent playing card games with Ben, tending to her garden, soaking in the beauty of nature, and gathering with family and friends. These moments reflected the warmth and gratitude she carried in her heart.

Though Mary’s time with us feels far too short, her legacy of love, kindness, and joyful service will live on in all who knew her. She made the world brighter—and that light will never fade.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 1804 Highland Ave. in Eau Claire. A funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. followed by a light meal after the service.
