Mary Ann Axness, 69, of Eau Claire, died Monday, October 6, 2008, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.\r\nShe was born in Eau Claire on April 16, 1939, the daughter of Carl and Lillian (Sather) Gregerson. She graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1957. \r\nFollowing graduation, Mary worked for Hobbs Supply in Eau Claire. She met David O. Axness and they were married on July 7, 1962, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, where she was a lifelong member.\r\nMary worked for National Presto Industries from 1964 to 1967 as a switchboard operator. She worked many years raising her two children and helping run the family business, Axness Sports Supply. Most recently, she worked for Pleasant Company until the time of her retirement in 2004.\r\nAmong her favorite pastimes were camping, fishing, crocheting, knitting and spending time with friends and family. She loved spending time at the family trailer on Red Cedar Lake in Birchwood. \r\nMary is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Sandi (Cecil) Spivey of Woodbury, MN; a son, Mark (Connie) Axness of Cheyenne, WY; four grandchildren, Samantha and Sabrina Spivey of Woodbury, MN, and Justin and Jade Axness of Cheyenne, WY; and a brother, Roger Gregerson of Eau Claire, WI; She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Donald Gregerson. \r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, with Pastor Rolf Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Town of Washington. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday at church.\r\nMemorials are preferred and will be distributed to Mary's favorite charities.\r\n
