Mary Marie Brown, 82, of Eau Claire died Sunday, October 26, 2003 at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home, Altoona. She was born in Augusta, Wisconsin on October 16, 1921, the daughter of Alfred and Jessie Thompson. Mary's parents died when she was young so she went to live with her aunt and uncle in Platteville where she graduated from Platteville High School. She attended Eau Claire Teachers College and received her teaching degree. She taught one year in Stanley and then at Black Elementary in Eau Claire. Mary married Floyd E. Brown on September 28, 1942 in Chippewa Falls. \r\nMary was a member of First Lutheran Church and participated in various women's groups and Bible Studies. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crafts, gardening, square dancing and her 500 card club.\r\nShe was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mary had a positive personality, great sense of humor and was quick with a smile. \r\nSurvivors include her two daughters, Barbara (Frank) Hagman and Rebecca (Tom) Hotujec both of Eau Claire; four grandchildren, Gregory (Jody) Hagman and their daughter, Jordyn Rose of Menomonie, Andrew Hagman of St. Louis Park, MN, Bryan Hotujec of Kirksville, MO and Megan Hotujec of Eau Claire; sister-in-law, Dorothy Brown of Eau Claire; and several nieces and nephews. \r\nMary was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd in April of 2000; a brother, Keith Thompson; and two sisters, Kathryn Nicholson and infant Julia Thompson.\r\nFuneral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the town of Washington. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
