Obituary

Mary B. Dennis, 91, of Altoona, died Monday, January 29, 2007, at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona. She was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on April 25, 1915, the daughter of Edgar and Ancilla (Rossmissl) Walter.\r\nShe graduated from St. Mary's High School in Neenah, WI. Her family moved to Eau Claire in 1933. She went on to attend the Practical Nursing Program at Eau Claire Normal School.\r\nMary married Roy Dennis on May 13, 1937, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Eau Claire.\r\nShe was employed by Sacred Heart Hospital, working in the maternity ward from 1948 to 1960.\r\nMary is survived by her five sons, Deacon James (Barbara) of Chetek, Stephen (Kathleen) of Eleva, Patrick of Washington, D.C., Edgar (Carolyn) of Cresco, IA, Richard (Vicki) of Andover, MN; a daughter, Kathleen (Dr. Richard) Zimmerman of West Bend, WI; twenty-two grandchildren, Jenny Grundl, Beth Von Arx, Brian, Tim,&Tony Zimmerman, Becky Domion, Martha Enselmoz, Todd&Paul Dennis, Stephen Dennis, Jean Skemp, Karl&Carmen Dennis, Sarah Gaib, Richard, Mark, Mary, & Stephanie Dennis, Josephine Marie Arriola, Pamela Marie Bilderback, Kyle Marie Milliron, and Michael James Dennis; fifty-one great grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. Karl (Jeanne) Walter of Mondovi and Dr. William (Vonnie) Walter of Eau Claire; a sister, Monica Gagnon of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Roy in 1987; a son, Michael, who died in 1940; two brothers, George and John Walter; and two sisters, Barbara Walter and Rosie Kendall.\r\nA Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father William A. Dhein and Deacon James Dennis celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire at a later date. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving her family.\r\nMary was a very loving person who gave much to her family and church. She will be remembered for always thinking of others first. She greatly enjoyed attending family celebrations and never came empty handed. Mary, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and friend will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.\r\nMemorials are preferred to Oakwood Villa, 2512 New Pine Dr., Altoona, WI 54720 or to St. Bede Monastery, 1190 Priory Rd., Eau Claire, WI 54701.\r\nThe family would like to offer a word of thanks to the staff at Oakwood Villa for their special care and attention given to mother, especially during her final hours.\r\n
