Mary F. "Frankie" Strand passed away on August 7, 2024 under the wonderful care of Heartland Hospice at Care Partners in Eau Claire, WI. She was born on December 17, 1924, in Gastonia, N. Carolina, the daughter of John & Ethel (Goldsmith) Cloninger. She met Alvin D. Strand while he was serving in the Army and they were married on October 10, 1943 in York, South Carolina. Upon Al's discharge they settled in Eau Claire, WI. She worked as a book binder at Shedd Brown Mfg for over 30 years, retiring when the plant closed in 1984. She enjoyed playing cards, games of chance, dancing, bowling, following tennis, the Packers and Badgers on TV and the camaraderie at the local Eagles club, where she served on the Auxiliary for many years. In her later years, nothing lit up her life as much as when the grand and great grand kids came to visit. Survivors include her son, Terry (Ede) of Eau Claire; two grandchildren, Jodi (Brian) Kent and Joshua (Tara) Strand; seven great-grandchildren, Rachel (Matt) Bemis, Matthew (Amanda), Mariah and Anna Kent, Cinder, Alex and Rose Strand; great-great grandchild, Grace Kent; two brothers, Jerry of Ohio and Ken (Doris) of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Gladys Strand of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 2003 after 60 years of marriage; son, Alvin D. Jr; five brothers, Harold, John (Fanchon), Samuel (Marie), Bill, Don (Faye); four sisters, Mae Flowers, Grace Broome, Virginia Norris and Alda Williams; five brothers-in-law, Henry, Lionel and David Strand, Conrad Gunderson and Norman Suring; four sisters-in-law, Betty Strand and Marjorie Strand, Gloria Suring and Janna Gunderson, many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Tuesday, August 13 at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral & Cremation Services. 814 First Avenue with Pastor Mary Erickson officiating.
