Mary P. Haun went home to Heaven on January 19, 2006. She was a resident of the Syverson Lutheran Home and formerly lived at Mt. Washington Residence, and her home at 1608 Hopkins Avenue in Eau Claire. \r\nMaryellen Patra Melhus was born June 10, 1921 to Arthur Melhus and Myrtle (Gray) Melhus in Stillwater, MN. She attended high school in LaCrosse, WI and then moved to Eau Claire where her father was a pattern-maker at Presto Industries.\r\nShe met and married Ralph Haun in 1942 in Alexandria, VA. They both worked on the Manhattan Project at the atomic bomb plant in Oakridge, TN. They moved to Eau Claire after the war. Her husband, Ralph, worked at Uniroyal as an electrician.\r\nShe was a homemaker and perfect mom. As children, we never had any "chores" - mom did all of those. We enjoyed playing and being kids. She enjoyed sewing, camping, and gardening. She and her husband Ralph were charter members of Calvary Baptist Church and she sang in the choir.\r\nShe allowed her home to be "home" for any stray or unwanted pets that were brought home. This included everything from guinea pigs, cats with kittens, pregnant cats, a kitten dad rescued from under a manhole cover in the street, and even an orphaned baby chicken referred to as "Hilda Chicky" who had the run of the house, backyard, neighbors yards, and lived to be six years old. Our home was a "zoo". She always appreciated Dr. Walt Klein, DVM, who was always gracious enough to "run a tab".\r\nMary was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; parents; sister-in-law, Valerie (Dascher) Melhus; and brother-in-law, James Vetter. She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Mahoney of Denver, Colorado and Judi (Tom) Wolter of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Heather Wolter (finance' Eric) and Heidi Wolter, both of Eau Claire, Brian Mueller (Angela) of Savage, MN, Nathan Mueller (finance' Tiffany) of St. Cloud, MN, Shannon Mahoney of St. Paul, MN; and three great grandchildren, Riley and Will Mueller, and Jada Lynn Barden. Mary is further survived by her sister, Andree Vetter of Westminster, CO; a brother, James Melhus of Savannah, TN; two nieces; and four nephews.\r\nShe will be sadly missed by her family but is enjoying that Mansion that was waiting for her in Heaven. Hopefully, the Lord will allow her to have some pets. We'll see you later mom.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2006, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1805 Goff Avenue, Eau Claire, with Pastor John Van Gorkom and Pastor Ralph Miller officiating. Family and friends may call Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service, Friday, at church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire.\r\n
