Obituary

MARY THOMLEY NELSON, 86, formerly of 510 Truax Blvd, Eau Claire, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation in Eagle Point Township. She was born in the town of Northfield, Jackson County, Wisconsin on December 4, 1914 to Julius and Emma (Olson) Thomley. She graduated from Osseo High School, then attended Eau Claire Teachers College for two years.\r\nMary married Adolph I. Nelson on April 6, 1935 in Eau Claire. She later pursued her education, graduating from UW- Eau Claire. Mary was employed as a library assistant at McIntyre Library at UW-Eau Claire for 19 years, retiring in 1979. She was also a teacher in the rural schools of Trempealeau and Eau Claire counties. \r\nShe was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church of Eau Claire and it organizations, and a member of Sons of Norway.\r\nSurvivors include one son, Richard (Janet) of New Richmond; one sister, Margaret Mullen of LaCrosse; three brothers, Obert Thomley of Chippewa Falls, Jerome Thomley of Fremont, CA, and Ronald Thomley of Red Wing, MN; six grandchildren, Daniel Tomten of Prescott, David Tomten of Boise, ID, Charlotte Nelson of Minneapolis, Joseph Nelson of New Richmond, Elissa Nelson of New York, NY, and Emily Nelson of Oakland, CA; a great-granddaughter, Rosemary Galvin of Minneapolis; and a special family, Robert and Audrey Tomten and their son Eric of Janesville, and their daughters, Pamela (Robert) Mereness of Walworth, and Sara (John) Diercks of Scottsdale, AZ, and great-granddaughter, Abigail.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adolph; two sons, David and Charles; two brothers, Gordon and Manfred Thomley; and her sister, Elizabeth Thomley.\r\nFuneral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary F. Sahs officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.
