Mary Bermel Olson, age 85 of Eau Claire, WI passed away on August 9th, 2024 at Milestone Senior Living with her family around her. Mary was born on March 14th, 1939 in Duluth, MN to Luverne and Jessie Bermel. As an determined young girl, she faced her first great challenge, contracting and then overcoming Polio. In 1959, she married Richard Weld and as a young wife and mother, welcomed two sons, Terry and Scott. They later divorced in 1965. In 1968, she opened her arms and small home, to two teenage foster children, Mary and Roger and, with nothing more to give but herself, continually sought out ways to help others. In 1970, she met and married Howard "Howie" Olson, who whisked her away to Eau Claire in his shiny, blue convertible. Two years later, their daughter Amy was born and again, Mary was off and running. As Amy approached high school, Mary sought out a career as a caregiver for Triniteam and for the Eau Claire County-Department of Aging, assisting our seniors. She loved dearly, being a mom and a grandmother, spending her summers at "the lake", gardening, her dogs, baking with her grandchildren and conversations with friends and neighbors over a cup of coffee or a game of bridge. Mary, mom, grandma, will be missed by many, including her children, Terry Weld (Janet), Scott Weld (Laura), Amy Gray (Peter), grandchildren Jonah, Gabrielle, Peter, Eloise, Wyatt, Miles, Kylie, dear friends and extended family. Thank you to the staff of Milestone and Mayo Hospice for all that they do. A private, memorial service will be held at a later date.
