He was the only son of Richard and Deirdre\r\ndeGrood of Eau Claire, WI. Matthew was born an optimist and a dreamer.\r\n His ready smile began winning people over at an early age. Matthew\r\nattended Park Elementary School, South Middle School, and Memorial High School\r\nbefore going on to graduate with a B.A. in Tele-Communications from the\r\nUniversity of Eau Claire, WI. Classmates from these schools will remember\r\nMatthew for his outgoing nature and ability to see the best in everyone and\r\nevery situation. He spent the last ten years living in Las Vegas, NV,\r\nwhere he dabbled in improv, stand-up comedy, and web design. He loved his\r\njob working in a bookstore where he could talk to a steady stream of new people\r\nand recommend all of his favorite reads. Matthew's love for a simple life\r\nwas admirable. His weekly phone calls, witty sense of humor, terrible book and\r\nmovie recommendations, and perpetually positive spirit will be deeply missed.\r\n\r\nMatthew is survived\r\nby his mother, Deirdre deGrood of Eau Claire; his older sister Sarah (Lawrence\r\nJonaus) and her children Anna, Clara, and Joseph of Columbus, OH; and his\r\nyounger sister Martha (Erik Skold) and her children Mae and Isak of St. Paul,\r\nMN.\r\n\r\nHe is preceded in\r\ndeath by his father, Richard.\r\n\r\nFuneral services\r\nwill be at 11 am on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral\r\nHome, 814 First Ave in Eau Claire with Fr. George Szews officiating. Visitation\r\nwill begin at 10 a.m. \r\n\r\nDonations made to\r\nFeed My People Food Bank (www.fmpfoodbank.org) are encouraged in lieu of\r\nflowers.
