Mavis J. Strand, 81, of Eau Claire died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Luther Hospital. She was born in Whitehall, Wisconsin on June 17, 1927, the daughter of Arthur and Agnes (Emerson) Gilbertson.\r\nMavis married Gerald M. Strand on September 4, 1950, in Arcadia, WI.\r\nShe worked many years at the Ninth Ward Bakery, and then in the food service department at UW-Eau Claire until her retirement. During her retirement Mavis worked for the Eau Claire County Department of Aging.\r\nShe was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.\r\nShe enjoyed golfing and was proud of her accomplishment scoring two "holes in one".\r\nMavis is survived by her two sons, John ( Cheryl) Strand and Gerald (Bev) Strand; daughter, Ellen Strand all of Eau Claire; four grandchildren, Christina Strand, Tait (Mary) Strand, Jon (Julia) Strand, and Troy (Trina) Strand; her sister, Germaine Olson of Eau Claire; brother, Russell Gilbertson of Arcadia; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald in 1984; her sister, Rhoda Isbell; sister-in-law, Lorna Gilbertson; and brother-in-law, Donald Olson.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2008, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Pastor John E. Hosmann officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\n \r\n
