MAXINE L. UPTHEGROVE, 95, formerly of Grace Edgewood and Grace Barstow Apartments, died Monday, February 16, 1998 at M.B.Syverson Lutheran Home. She was born February 5, 1903 to William and Claire (Moeckel) Upthegrove in Ashland,WI. Maxine graduated from Ashland High School in 1921. In 1922, she moved to Eau Claire and began working for Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company. She retired in 1965 as a service representative, after forty-two years of service. She was a past president of the Telephone Pioneers Club and enjoyed many tours with the Pioneer Club throughout the United States and Europe. Maxine was an excellent dancer and very proud of the trophies she had received in recognition of her talent.\r\nSurvivors include cousins, Eleanor Upthegrove of Superior, Jean Upthegrove of Richmond, IN, Ellen Upthegrove of Victorville, CA, John (Cyndi) Upthegrove of Seattle, WA, Judie (Roger) Erola of Duluth, MN, Mike (Shane) Upthegrove of Port Wing, Jim (Marcy) Upthegrove of Eau Claire, Bill (Barb) Upthegrove of Roanoke, VA; special friends, Dorothy Brown of Eau Claire, and Donna Backus of Eleva, and many more cousins and friends.\r\nShe was preceded in death by cousins, Lyman, Donald, and Thomas Upthegrove.\r\nMemorial services were 11 a.m. today (Wednesday), at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home, with Chaplain Vonnie Olson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Ashland.\r\n
