Obituary

MELVIN "MEL" C. SCHWOCH, 81, of 3155 Craig Road, died Sunday, January 24, 1999 at his home. He was born June 21, 1917 in Bruce Valley in the town of Hale, Trempealeau County, to Max and Grace (Hovue) Schwoch. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1935. Melvin married Dorothy (Bean) Woodford in Eau Claire on January 25, 1947.\r\nHe served in the U.S. Army from June 1938 to June 1941, and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served from Dec. 1941 until his honorable discharge in December 1946. Melvin worked over 30 years at Uniroyal Tire Co., until his retirement in 1979.\r\nHe was a member of VFW Post #305.\r\nSurvivors include two step-sons, Gerald (Kathy) Woodford and Lyle (Phyllis) Woodford both of Eau Claire; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; a sister, Helen (Arthur) Thoreson of Eau Claire; and his special friend Alice Sundin of Eau Claire. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 1987; and two brothers, Earl and Alton. \r\nFuneral Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home with Father Edmund Klimek officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call 1 p.m. Wednesday, until time of services at the funeral home.
