Melvin O. (Mannie) Wold, 99, born April 25, 1917, passed away on September 4, 2016, with family by his side. He passed after a day in a place that gave him great joy. He attended Excelsior, a one room country school in the Town of Seymour, WI. In his youth he traveled the west and worked a variety of jobs during his travels. He served his country during World War II in the US Army Air Corp, at Childress, Texas, were he attained the rank of Sergeant. He was an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer on the Boeing B29 Superfortress. After the service, he returned to Eau Claire and worked at Larson Lumber and Hardware, where he met his future wife. He married Thelma Lorraine Larson on July 13, 1953. They lived their entire lives in Eau Claire where they raised their two children, Richard and Kristine. Mannie took over Larson Lumber, a place where folks would come in as customers and leave as friends. His work was his passion in life. He was still tossing 2x4s when he retired at 79! After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed travel in the U.S. as well as memorable trips and cruises with their children. He had a fondness for cars, fishing and flying. He had been a pilot for many years. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Wisconsin for 68 years, a member of the American Legion and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge. Mannie was a humble man and was always there to help others. Above all, he was a good husband, father, brother, father-in-law and friend. He was his son's best friend. He is survived by his son, Rick (Mary Ann) Wold of Eau Claire; his daughter Kristine (Jim-wah) Wong of Longmont, CO; his sister, Arlene (Willard "Pete") Vance of Altoona; nephews, Bill (Vickie) Vance, Steven (Alice) Vance, Bill Larson, Ken Larson; nieces, Diane (Dean) Christensen and Jennie (Don) Childs; other relatives and friends, including, Gene Amann, Warren Petryk, Tong Ta, Ruth Bodgett, Mary Kalendovsky and Krissy Hageness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Thelma; his parents Sigurd and Tena Wold; his sisters Mabel Westhauser and Sally Kirby; brothers-in-law Ray Westhauser and Harold Kirby; sister-in-law, Jean Larson. The family would like to thank Krissy Hageness for all the care and friendship she gave Mannie and Thelma. Funeral services will be held at 11am, on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Spirit Lutheran Church, 1310 Main Street, Eau Claire, with Pastor Amy Odgren officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to services at the church, with the Masonic Lodge #112 F&AM attending. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #53.
