Merle D. Monson, 76, of Eau Claire passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 29, 2009. \r\nHe was born in Eau Claire on September 9, 1933, a son of J. Richard&Margaret (LaVine) Monson.\r\nMerle married Joanne M. Plomedahl in Eau Claire on October 24, 1953.\r\nMerle worked 39 years as a tire builder and serviceman at UniRoyal until the plant closed. He then worked as a truck driver for Sam Krause farm until his retirement. \r\nHe loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and doing creative handy work. Merle was a dedicated husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He always put others before himself and never missed an opportunity to help. \r\nMerle was always very accepting and forgiving of others and it served him well in life and in the eyes of the Lord. He had a great sense of humor that was never lost right up to the very end.\r\nMerle is survived by his wife, Joann; three sons, Rick Monson of Chippewa Falls, John (Rhonda) Monson of Fall Creek, and Mark Monson of Eau Claire; two daughters, Brenda (Tim) Rogge of Bloomer and Tammy (Clint) Wegerer of Eau Claire; sister, Mary Backstrom of Eau Claire; sister-in-law, Louise Monson of Tony; seven grandchildren, four step grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; nieces; great-nieces and nephews; and one very special friend Ray Chevetal. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Linda Marie; two brothers, Larry and Kenneth; and infant sister, LaVonne.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral and Cremation Services, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday prior to services at the funeral home.\r\n
